Bali With Kids: Family Activities, Safari, Zoo and Water Park — cover photo

The easiest family days in Bali are the animal parks and the water park: Bali Safari (now Taman Safari Bali), Bali Zoo, Bali Bird Park and Waterbom. Most have a lower fee for children, and the only hard height limits are on the big slides at Waterbom. Plan one big attraction per day, start early and keep the afternoon free for the pool.

What are the best things to do in Bali with kids?

Five places cover most of what families ask about. The table below comes from each park's own website.

Attraction Hours Kids and rules
Waterbom Bali Daily 9 am to 6 pm, closed on Nyepi Child ticket for ages 2 to 11. Under 6 must be with an adult. Big slides need 100 cm or more.
Bali Bird Park Daily 9 am to 5:30 pm Children's price applies under 12. Entry covers all activities.
Ubud Monkey Forest Daily 9 am to 6 pm, last entry 5 pm Child ticket. No food, no touching, keep small objects out of sight.
Taman Safari Bali (Bali Safari) Check the official booking page Mix of tram safari, shows, animal encounters and a water play zone.
Bali Zoo Around 9 am to 5 pm, check on the day Walk-through zoo with animal encounters and a night programme.

Ticket prices change, so check the official page before you go.

Is Waterbom good for kids, and what are the height limits?

Waterbom has a children's area with no height minimum, and the larger slides need riders above 100 cm. That is the main rule to know before you queue. The park's own FAQ says its AquaPlay water playground suits kids from toddler age up to 16, and that children under 6 must be accompanied and supervised by an adult at all times.

It opens every day from 9 am to 6 pm and closes only on Nyepi, the Day of Silence. At the time of writing, the ticket page listed a single day pass at IDR 630,000 for an adult and IDR 495,000 for a child aged 2 to 11, and a family pass for two adults and two children at IDR 2,200,000. Prices vary by date and can sell out, so book on the official site. Outside food is not allowed, and only one bottle of water per person can be brought in.

Our Waterbom Bali page has the location and a short introduction.

What is there to do at Bali Safari and what is Feed The Predator?

Bali Safari now trades as Taman Safari Bali. Its website says the park holds over a thousand animals from more than 120 species, including Komodo dragons, orangutans and the Bali starling, and describes itself as active in wildlife conservation. It is on the Bypass Ida Bagus Mantra road in Gianyar.

The listed features include a safari tram, a 4x4 jeep safari, a water play and fun zone and a Feed The Predator experience. Opening hours and ticket prices appear only in the booking system, and third party sites quote different figures, so check the official booking page for your date. One third party listing mentions an evening session, which is worth asking about if you have small children who do better with a late start.

Our safari tours are all from $35 per car: Feed The Predator, The Night Safari Tour, The Private Safari Adventure and Water Play and Fun Zone. The tour pages say what each one covers and which park or experience it visits, so read them before choosing. The park itself is described on our Bali Safari page.

Is Bali Zoo worth it with children?

Yes, if your kids like walking and getting close to animals. Bali Zoo is a walk-through zoo near Singapadu in Gianyar, with encounters and feeding sessions scheduled through the day. A travel review puts the hours at 9 am to 5 pm and notes that the animal encounters, such as the breakfast with orangutans, cost extra.

One change is worth knowing. A 2026 report says the zoo ended its elephant riding programme in January 2026 after a directive from the Forestry Ministry. If an old brochure or listing still shows elephant rides, treat it as out of date and ask before you book.

Go in the morning, when the animals are more active, and bring water and a hat. More background is on our Bali Zoo page.

Is Bali Bird Park suitable for young children?

Yes. The official FAQ says it is open every day from 9 am to 5:30 pm, that the entrance price is the same every day of the week, and that children below 12 pay the children's price. The ticket covers all activities in the park, so there are no extra payments inside.

Most people spend two to three hours there, according to the park, though some stay all day. The park's address is in Singapadu, Batubulan, Gianyar, the same area as Bali Zoo, so you can look at pairing the two on one day.

Is the Ubud Monkey Forest safe for children?

It is, if you hold the rules firmly. The sanctuary's own guidelines tell visitors not to touch the monkeys, not to feed them unless trained staff supervise, not to bring food or drink, and not to look them in the eye. If a monkey jumps on you, stay calm and walk slowly. The guidelines also ask parents to look after their children, and warn that monkeys are drawn to small objects such as toys, jewellery and beads.

The official page lists entry at IDR 130,000 for an adult and IDR 100,000 for a child, open daily from 9 am to 6 pm with last entry at 5 pm. The child age band is not stated on that page, so check at the ticket booth. Keep young children close and carry small items in a zipped bag. Our Ubud Monkey Forest page has more.

Which attraction suits which age?

Toddlers do best at Waterbom, where the kids area has no height minimum and the AquaPlay playground is built for the smallest children. Primary school age gets the most from the animal parks, because the walking is manageable and the shows and feeding sessions give them something to watch. Teenagers will want the big slides at Waterbom, where the 100 cm limit stops mattering, and the safari experiences.

The Monkey Forest is the one to be careful with. It is free of height rules, but the monkeys are semi-wild, and the sanctuary itself asks parents to keep a close eye on their children. For under-fives, decide on the day how they are coping with crowds and noise before you go in.

Plan around heat as well. Most of these places are outdoors, so take water, sun cream and a change of clothes. Waterbom lets you bring one bottle of mineral water per person. Bali Bird Park and Taman Safari Bali both mention restaurants on their own websites.

How should you plan a family day?

Pick one headline attraction and fit a second, lighter stop around it.

  • Morning at Bali Zoo or Bali Safari, afternoon at the pool. Both parks are best when it is cool.
  • Bird Park plus Monkey Forest. Both are in the Ubud and Gianyar area and suit younger children.
  • Waterbom as the whole day. Do not stack another sight on top.
  • Beach days in between. Kids need a day with nothing booked. Our Bali beaches guide covers the calmer options, and our Bali travel guide covers how many days to allow.

If you arrive in the evening, keep the first day free for a late start and some rest.
